Communion set owned by Rev. Charles Tisdall was gifted to the Kinder Library
The Rev. Charles Archibald Tisdall was born and educated in Auckland. Tisdall studied at the University of Auckland gaining an M.A with honours in political science in 1895, and then trained at St John’s College in Parnell. For a short time in 1902, Rev Charles Tisdall became the Warden of the college.
This travelling Holy Communion three-piece set belonged to the Rev. Charles Tisdall and it was gifted by Peter Tisdall, his grandson to an Anglican Church in the Pacific.
How wonderful to see the past preserved in an appropriate place. Too many religious treasures are ending up in people’s gardens (statues) improperly preserved, in domestic situations as ornamentation or trinkets, where their true significance is not honoured.

She is the one in the back row wearing the boater hat. See Ruth Frys Community of the Sacred Name A Centennial History.
I love this portable communion set. They are becoming quite rare and valuable. The cruet is very ornate. Thanks for sharing it.
Hello – I thought you might like to see my blog, which has some more information about Rev Tisdall, while he was curate at Old St Paul’s in Wellington in the 1890s. Kind regards, Elizabeth
