Church of the Ascension Waikari 1901 – 2001
This compilation covers a colourful history of the Anglican Church of Waikari, the Church of Ascension and the vicarage. An interesting read regarding the churches changing facade and a brief history of its priests and community. During its history, the vicarage barely survived an earthquake on Christmas Day 1922 and finally succumbed to fire two months later, in February 1923.
This booklet was compiled by Henry Searle.
Is this the church at Waikari, North Canterbury? It is not clear from the article just where it is located. Thank you.
Valerie
Hi Valerie,
Yes, this is referring to the Church of the Ascension in Waikiri, North Canterbury. The post is about a history of the church put together by Henry Searle in 2009. We hold a copy in our New Zealand/Pacific Collection here at the John Kinder Theological Library.
